Extension office seeks modest increase as county affirms local support; staffing vacancy announced

The county extension office outlined a modest budget request and reported a staff vacancy during the Henry County commission’s budget meeting.
"If you don't remember, my name is Elaine Anderson," the presenter said, identifying herself as a "Resideo engagement specialist for Henry County and staff" and describing the request as "kinda flat" with "about a 4 and a half percent increase, what we're asking for" and a 2.5% increase for office support that reflects rising costs including health insurance and telephone expenses (SEG 331, SEG 336–346).
Commissioners said the county provides office space and utilities for the extension office and that practices for support vary across counties. One participant noted Henry County has been "one of the highest" financial supporters of its extension council (SEG 417–436). Staff and commissioners discussed that some counties provide only limited in-kind support while Henry County contributes more substantially.
On staffing, Speaker 2 announced, "Delaney Dehart was our YPA for the county, and she has resigned. She's taken a position with the bank. So we are posting for that position" and said interim coverage is being provided by Kim Hall from Johnson County (SEG 371–379). The vacancy will be advertised and materials posted to the local paper and social channels.
Speakers also clarified grant and benefit rules: the state pays wages under some grant arrangements but does not cover office supplies or benefits in recent years, and county staff noted they are reviewing which grant lines cover benefits versus wages (SEG 1692–1706, SEG 1728–1736). The county’s reported benefits cost per employee was stated at just over $14,000, which staff said must be considered when preparing budgets.
Commissioners did not vote on the extension request during the session; staff were asked to provide detailed budget copies and follow up at the workshop.
The commission continued general budget work and scheduled a follow-up workshop next week where the extension budget and other departmental budgets will be reviewed in greater detail.
