Several council members urged caution about setting a final salary immediately after onboarding a new city administrator and suggested allowing the new administrator time to assess the position before any final pay decision. Council agreed to a first reading only; there was no waiver of subsequent readings at this meeting, allowing more time for staff to provide precise figures and for council discussion.
Council staff said the intention is to bring the zoning-administrator pay in line with department-head managers; the ordinance was added to the agenda for a first reading only so the administrator and council can review the specifics ahead of a later vote.
