Old Lincoln County courthouse vault door to be displayed in new justice center, commissioners say

Commissioner Arons relayed a constituent inquiry that a vault door had been observed on a trailer and asked why it was being moved. Building superintendent John Grama said the door — one of several original vault doors — will be cleaned and placed on display in the new justice center lobby with a plaque explaining its history. Grama said research indicated the painted panel on the door likely came from the original safe manufacturer and matched examples he found during a brief historical check.
Commissioners said the move was intended to make a historical feature accessible to the public rather than leaving it unseen in a basement. "It's probably a fitting tribute for it," a commissioner said. Staff said they will prepare signage or a plaque to accompany the display.
