The Lincoln County Commission voted Jan. 6 to name its legal newspapers for 2026.
Assistant commission administrator Paul Anderson presented the recommendation to select at least three legal newspapers. Commissioners moved to keep Sioux Valley News, the Lennox Independent and Tea Weekly and to continue publishing notices in the Dakota Scout. After debate about cost and transparency, the motion to include the Dakota Scout carried on a roll-call vote.
Supporters said an additional outlet helps reach readers in areas where the three primary papers have lower circulation; opponents said adding a fourth paper is an unnecessary taxpayer expense and suggested moving to web-based notice systems if state law permits. A member of the Sioux Valley News said county legals are available online without subscription.
