Sebring fills CRA and board vacancies; planning and code panels updated amid voting confusion

The Sebring City Commission on Jan. 6 appointed members to the Community Redevelopment Agency and multiple advisory boards, filling several vacancies and leaving at least one seat open after procedural confusion during the roll calls.

For the CRA vacancy, council confirmed John Rugos (listed in the meeting record as John Rugos) to serve the term that would have expired Sept. 30, 2026. Council members praised applicants' willingness to serve and cited the need for outside perspectives to help downtown redevelopment.

Council then moved through several planning-and-zoning appointments. The commission cast individual votes for four P&Z openings; recorded affirmative votes in the transcript include Raymond Boser, Lazaro Martinez, Mark Wilson and Paul Katz. During the process, council members discussed the practical challenges of filling volunteer boards, noting that the code-enforcement board sometimes operates without a full quorum and relying on special magistrates.
