The Town of Hubbardston on Thursday organized a First Meeting House Preservation Committee, elected officers and heard a status report on repairs and safety systems at the historic First Meeting House.
Patricia Lowe, the town’s executive assistant and temporary town administrator, opened the meeting and said the committee’s primary charge is “preserving [the] first meeting house,” coordinating uses with town offices and ensuring the building meets state and federal historic standards. Lowe said she will provide initial administrative support and hand off routine responsibilities to the committee after this meeting.
Rick Green, a longtime Hubbardston farmer, volunteered to serve as the committee clerk during the meeting and was affirmed by voice vote. The committee also moved to appoint Green as chair; Gary Kangas was confirmed as vice chair. The transcript does not name who moved or seconded those nominations. Members indicated unanimous assent by saying “aye.”
Lowe told members they must comply with open-meeting rules and recommended keeping subcommittees smaller than a quorum. She described clerking resources maintained by the town clerk’s office and said the committee has 48 hours to post agendas online; members were instructed to coordinate agenda edits with town staff.
The committee set a regular meeting time on the third Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. and scheduled a next meeting for the 15th at 6:00 p.m., pending confirmation of room availability. Lowe said she will share the ADA report, the facilities report and preservation-restriction documents before the next meeting so members can review them and prepare grant applications.
The meeting ended after a motion to adjourn was made and seconded; members voted aye and the session closed. Minutes from the organizing meeting will be circulated to the committee for approval at the next session.
