Meeker County Board elects Beth Oberg chair, approves routine consent items

Beth Oberg was elected chair of the Meeker County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 6 after commissioners nominated and closed nominations, casting a unanimous ballot.
The newly seated board also approved routine organizational items on a substantial consent agenda. County staff listed approvals that included December 16 minutes, health and human services and hospital accounts payable, designation of the county’s official publication, committee appointments, 2026 appropriations and bank depositories, electronic fund transfers, county fund transfers and final payments on paving contracts. A roll call was conducted by county staff and the consent agenda passed.
Board members additionally reviewed and re-adopted the Meeker County board protocol and public participation policies with no substantive changes from the prior two years; staff said the item had been scheduled for annual review as a commitment from the 2024 update. The actions were taken early in the meeting to set the board’s organizational structure for 2026.
The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a brief recognition of deputies Roger Muffley and Sergeant Ryan Schutz, who were honored by the Minnesota Sheriffs Association for a July 29, 2025 river rescue. The meeting adjourned after the board completed its listed business and reports.
