County previews higher-resolution aerial imagery, seeks federal LIDAR grant and plans public access

Megan, the county’s land information staff member, previewed new 2025 aerial imagery and described ongoing grant work to support mapping upgrades.
"On the left is the new 2025 imagery, and on the right is the older, 2020 imagery," Megan said during a demo, noting the new imagery's higher resolution. She reported the imagery package is roughly 40 gigabytes and that staff plan to publish it to the public website in the first quarter, with a mid-February target if performance and server load allow.
Megan said the office applied for a federal LIDAR grant; if the county receives that funding it will prioritize LIDAR upgrades, otherwise the office will return to core projects such as updating section corners and remapping tax-process maps. She also said the office will begin charging a new revenue line for certified survey map reviews starting Jan. 1.
Staff described planned public access and fee options: office templates and a print service (8.5x11 starting at $5; larger prints up to $30). Megan cautioned that the imagery is currently served dynamically from the GIS server and staff will monitor usage to avoid slowdowns.
Staff also noted Esri is retiring the platform used to serve public-facing web maps; the county is rebuilding those maps in a supported web format to improve performance and capabilities.
