Several residents and business representatives spoke during audience comments at the Daytona Beach Shores City Commission meeting, raising neighborhood safety and code‑enforcement concerns and promoting local-business events.
Emma Clark, representing the Orange South Daytona Chamber of Commerce, asked that the Chamber name be updated to explicitly include the Shores and described upcoming events: the Better Life Expo (Saturday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.), a Jan. 14 insurance panel at the Riverside Pavilion, and a new‑member reception on Jan. 20. Clark also welcomed a new Chamber staff member, Stacy.
A resident who identified herself as Stephanie reported ongoing problems at neighboring properties at 3221 and 3222 (described as the Shores motel/hotel). Stephanie said she has experienced burglary, drugs, prostitution and persistent debris near the properties, and said code enforcement efforts were temporary because the debris and nuisances returned within weeks. She asked whether the properties were short-term or long-term rentals and whether the city would do more to address public-safety and blight concerns. Stephanie asked several probing questions directly: “Is it safe? Is it a home for feral cats? Is it a home for drug addicts?”
The commission directed Stephanie to speak with code enforcement staff and Lieutenant Mark Swanson and noted that Brian from code enforcement had been responsive but that enforcement actions require documentation and a paper trail.
Sandy Cook of Realty Pros praised La Palma House restaurant (3100 A1A), noting the owners were working in the restaurant and had signed a 10‑year lease, and encouraged residents to support the new business. Cook also asked for an update on the RFP for the economic-development director; the city manager said staff had met with the Urban Land Institute and expect to complete a basic study without a formal RFP to expedite the effort.
No formal enforcement action or timetable was announced during the meeting; staff asked the public to confer with code enforcement to provide documentation and next steps.
