Lance Dean of the Public Defender's Office said the office began providing services under a prior arrangement in 2019 at $6,500 per year. Daggett County incrementally raised its contribution to $11,000 last year as a transition; the new MOU formalizes compensation at $17,000 per year for the three-year term. "All of the commissioners have signed that MOU, and I'm hopeful our commissioners here can sign it," Dean said.
Commissioners asked whether the $17,000 figure is fixed for the three-year term; Dean said it will remain $17,000 per year "until further notice." An unidentified commissioner moved to approve the MOU as presented and the vote was recorded as affirmative.
Next steps: the commission will sign the MOU and the county will provide the contracted defense services under the agreed compensation schedule.
