Windus requested permission to purchase two Hyundai HW168 wheeled excavators from the New York State OGS contract for a combined total of $607,006 (budget code 51320426). He said the wheeled excavators are more cost-effective to replace and have lower maintenance than prior models. The committee approved the purchase.
Windus also requested permission to purchase one Cat 140 AWD grader from Milton CAT for $348,000 on the NYS OGS contract (equipment budget code 513204). Committee members discussed keeping an older grader as a spare and confirmed the purchase was in the equipment budget; the motion carried.
Members asked clarifying questions about maintenance costs and expected advantages; Windus said the newer machines can reduce maintenance and that the county would retain one spare unit and likely sell others.
