Commission advances 2026 road priorities, asks sheriff to review speed request and outlines Public Chapter 1101 growth‑plan timetable

Dickson County staff distributed the county's 2026 road list (the annual list of roads eligible for county funds) and the commission voted to forward the list to the regular session for adoption as a resolution. Highway supervisor and staff said the list provides a roadmap of county‑funded road work and will not preclude consideration of other public roads as needs arise.

Commissioner Simpkins reported constituent concerns about speeds on Veil Adams Road and requested the sheriff's office examine the road and report back; the commission moved the request to the sheriff for study and asked for a response at a future meeting.

The mayor and staff also briefed commissioners on the required update to the county/city growth plan under Public Chapter 1101 (a statutory update to municipal/county growth areas). Staff said the plan — originally adopted in 2000 and updated in 2006 — requires coordination among municipal mayors; two municipalities (Sladen and Van Leer) chose not to participate, leaving their growth areas unchanged. Planning staff said they expect an initial public hearing before the planning commission in February and will provide GIS maps and materials to commissioners ahead of a Feb. 20 meeting.

Next steps: formal resolution for the road list and sheriff review of Veil Adams Road are expected to return to upcoming meetings; planning staff will circulate the draft growth‑plan materials and public‑hearing notices before the planning commission hearing.
