Presiding official said the parcel — listed at $1.1 million — had a seller‑negotiated price of $750,000 that county staff recommended accepting to expand the ag center from about 18.5 acres to nearly 30 acres. The official said funding would come from improved performances in smaller funds and available debt‑service savings, and emphasized the purchase would not impede the current footprint of the planned agriculture center building.
Commissioners questioned whether an existing easement between the properties would hinder use; staff said they would coordinate with the Tennessee Department of Transportation on right‑of‑way/widening plans and anticipated constructing a ‘glorified sidewalk’ or farm‑vehicle connection to link the parcels. An architect has been engaged to start design work on the primary 18‑acre site.
Commissioner Grove moved and Commissioner Ledger seconded a motion to move the proposed purchase to the regular session for a formal decision. Commissioners voted by voice 'aye.'
Next steps: staff will provide maps, deed/easement analysis and proposed funding sources at the regular session to allow a formal purchase decision.
