Allegany County panel approves assistant district attorney hires, deputy sheriff backfills and routine minutes

The Allegany County Public Safety Committee approved requests to fill an assistant district attorney position and two deputy sheriff vacancies during its Jan. 7 meeting, and also approved routine meeting minutes.
Chairman Harris opened the meeting and, after a brief procedural clarification about the agenda, the committee considered a request-to-fill form for an assistant district attorney position. A committee member said the positions were budgeted for 2026: “We did budget all the assistant attorneys in for 2026,” and members noted paperwork submitted in December. The committee moved and carried the request to fill the position.
Later in the meeting, Sheriff Scott Ciccarello asked permission to fill two deputy sheriff vacancies as backfills. Ciccarello confirmed the vacancies are included in the current budget; the committee moved, seconded and approved the request without further discussion.
The committee also approved minutes from Dec. 3 and Dec. 10 and completed other routine procedural actions.
What's next: The personnel actions approved at the committee level will proceed to any required next-step approvals as specified by county hiring and budgeting procedures.
