Board places application by day‑care operator on reserve after neighbor raises parking and safety concerns

Orastina Abreu told the board she operates a licensed day care at 30 Verrazano Avenue and sought an accessory apartment on the second floor for a family member. Dr. Pamela Allen of Amityville appeared in opposition and told the board the notification sign for the hearing was not visible and that the corner already experiences congestion and unsafe turning conditions after a bus depot opened across the street in 2025.

"We want a thorough traffic and parking impact study. We want enforceable mitigation on, before any approval," Allen said in opposition, citing what she described as a single‑family neighborhood and the risk to quality of life.

Abreu said the accessory unit was for her elderly mother and not intended for general rental; she also said she holds a rental permit for another property. Board members said they would investigate the claims about parking and bus traffic and noted that Dr. Allen's letter addressed the congested area generally rather than only Abreu's house. The board voted to place Abreu's application on reserve for further investigation; the motion was moved by Carolyn and seconded by Stephanie.
