The Town of Nashville council voted Jan. 6 to offer a temporary waiver of the $2,400 water connection fee for property owners along Red Oak Road who agree to annex and connect while the town installs a new water main.
Council members and staff said they had contacted 27 property owners about the extension between 1st Street and Red Oak/Eastern Avenue and recommended the incentive to increase voluntary connections. Randy (staff) said the town can run the service line to the property line, install a meter box and meter, and property owners’ contractors must connect from the meter to the house. "We can send a letter to everybody and say that," a council member said during discussion.
Councilors discussed deadlines and construction timing; one councilor suggested April 1 to ensure connections are made before the contractor finishes the main. Council moved to offer the waiver to customers who agree to annex and set an early‑April deadline; the motion was seconded and approved.
Staff said they will send clear letters showing the normal connection cost and the temporary waiver tied to annexation. The council also asked the project engineer and contractor to coordinate driveway repairs and timing, and to solicit a price to have the contractor make final property connections while building the project to reduce town costs.
The council did not specify the exact number of property owners who will accept the offer; staff noted the contractor has roughly 90 days to complete the project and proposed aligning the deadline with the contract schedule.
