Council sets Feb. 3 public hearings for 2026 street, alley and utility projects

The New Ulm City Council set public hearings for Feb. 3, 2026, to solicit public comment on two 2026 projects included in the city's Capital Improvement Plan.
City staff described the 2026 surface reconstruction project to be performed by city forces, which would include Jonathan Drive (Summit Avenue to the south leg of McIntosh Drive) and Cottonwood Street (Broadway to Bridge Street) to be paved with six inches of pavement, and noted these projects were part of the Capital Improvement Plan and engineer's report adopted Nov. 18. Separately, staff reviewed the 2026 Utility Street and Alley Improvement (USA) project, which includes State Street (12th North to 16th North), Oakwood Avenue (Hazelwood to Hollywood Avenue), several alley blocks south and north of Center Street, and miscellaneous sidewalk and pedestrian improvements. Staff noted a CIP open house on Dec. 10, 2025, attended by about six property owners.
The council unanimously set a public hearing date of Feb. 3, 2026, at 4:30 p.m., and directed staff to prepare and send public hearing notices. The hearings will be the formal opportunity for residents to review project plans, ask questions and submit comments before the council considers any contract awards or project authorizations.
