Mercer Island council elects Rosenbaum mayor, Becker deputy mayor for 2026–27

Dave Rosenbaum was elected mayor of Mercer Island on Tuesday during the council’s reorganizational meeting, and Daniel Becker was chosen deputy mayor.
City Clerk Andrea Larson opened nominations and Council Member Ted Weinberg nominated Dave Rosenbaum. After a roll-call vote, Rosenbaum received the majority required and was declared mayor for 2026–2027. Larson administered the oath of office to Rosenbaum, who then chaired the remainder of the meeting.
For deputy mayor, council members nominated Daniel Becker and Craig Reynolds. The council conducted an open roll-call election; Larson recorded that Becker received votes from Andral, Becker, Rosenbaum and Weicker (four votes) while Reynolds received votes from Shea, Reynolds and Weinberg (three votes). Larson then administered the oath of office to Deputy Mayor Daniel Becker.
Both elections were handled under the city’s council–manager rules requiring an internal vote by council members. After the swearing-in, the council took a brief recess for photos before resuming the evening’s business.
