Commission elects chair and vice chair, adopts updated rules of order and travel policy amendments

At its Jan. 6 meeting Morgan County commissioners elected leadership and approved several governance documents and policy updates.
Following an invocation, the commission held nominations for chair and vice chair. Commissioner Wilson was nominated and confirmed as commission chair; the nomination passed with one recorded opposition. Commissioner Vaughn was re-elected as vice chair by voice vote.
The commission then reviewed amendments to rules of order and procedure discussed in the work session (CR26-03), including clarifications to closed-meeting references (citing state code), updates to decorum language and guidance on removal of disruptive individuals. After discussion, the commission approved CR26-03 that incorporates the evening's amendments.
Commissioners also amended and adopted the travel and expense policy (CR26-04). Key changes approved include removing a requirement that the county administrator book lodging, adding rideshare (Uber, Lyft, taxi) to the reimbursable modes, and clarifying that county fleet scheduling takes priority over mileage reimbursement. The commission approved the amended travel policy unanimously.
Clerks and staff were directed to publish the updated policies and make digital copies available to commissioners.
