District PPS leaders outline plan to cut long suspensions, report 12 students currently at 10+ days

Jessica Matukowitz and GASA colleagues updated the board on District Comprehensive Improvement Plan Goal 3, which aims to lower the number of students with 10 or more days of removals from 86 to 77 by June 2026. Matukowitz described five lead measures the department is using, notably a target that 75% of students removed for 4+ days be reviewed by building problem-solving teams and that 90% of those meetings include building administrators, an assistant director and an additional staff member familiar with the student's intervention needs.
The presenters said they are expanding therapeutic crisis intervention (TCI) by using condensed training in district-wide meetings to reach more special-education staff and that new assistant-director staffing allows more timely on-site support. "Currently we have 12 students who have reached 10 or more days of suspension in our district," a PPS presenter reported, and added that early indicators show progress toward the target of 77 by June.
Board members asked follow-up questions and thanked the PPS team; no formal action was taken at the meeting.
