The City of Moscow on Jan. 5 swore in its incoming mayor and newly elected council members, then elected council leadership for 2026 and set committee assignments.
Lewis Scott Schenich (sworn in during the meeting) repeated the oath of office and joined newly seated councilors for the city's first official convening of the 2026 council. City staff reminded the body that Idaho law and Moscow City Code require the council to elect a president and vice president at the first meeting in January.
Council member Sandra nominated Drew Davis for council president; Bryce Blankenship nominated himself. In brief remarks to the body, Davis said he wanted to "extend transparency" and continuity after turnover; Bryce emphasized his readiness to "listen to the community" and apply his council experience. The mayor called for raised-hand votes; the mayor announced Drew Davis as council president after votes in favor included Sandra, Drew, Sage and Scott. In the vice-president vote Davis nominated Bryce Blankenship; council members voted to elect him.
The council then assigned members to the two standing committees. Drew Davis chose to chair the public works and finance committee and Bryce Blankenship was designated to serve on the administrative committee; other members were placed on each committee to ensure three members per panel.
The council's organizational actions concluded with brief remarks from newly seated councilors. The meeting adjourned after the appointments and elections.
What happens next: The council will proceed with committee meetings during alternate Mondays as scheduled and carry out the duties assigned under Moscow City Code.
