Lockport offers one-time free leaf bags and curbside pickup after early snowfall

The City of Lockport announced a one-time leaf cleanup program after early snowfall suspended the usual leaf-vac service. City staff said residents may pick up a package of five free leaf bags at City Hall or the Public Works Department and should place bagged leaves at curbside for a one-time city pickup beginning Tuesday, Jan. 20.
Staff explained that frozen or soaked leaves prevented use of the city leaf vacuum, prompting the interim bagged-collection plan to bridge the gap until Waste Management resumes seasonal pickup in March. "The city is providing a 1 time free leaf bag distribution and 1 time bagged curbside collection for the city of Lockport residents," the city announced.
The city is limiting the free distribution to five bags per household; residents needing more bags were advised to purchase extras at local retailers such as Ace Hardware or Walmart. The program is intended as a short-term measure to complete cleanup while larger seasonal services are suspended.
