St. Joseph County approves advertising for two federally aided road projects

"This is our federal aid project…where it's 80 20, their requirements require us to advertise this to consultants where we will take letters of interest," Metters said.
Metters described a second, similar federal-aid project for Pierce Road reconstruction from U.S. 31 to Juniper Road, also an 80/20 job; that project is scheduled to let in April 2026 and the board approved advertising for consultant proposals.
Both motions to advertise were seconded and approved by voice vote; no details about contract lengths, consultant selection criteria, or estimated engineering budgets were given during the meeting. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about the 80/20 funding and then approved the solicitations.
The solicitations will start the competitive procurement process for construction inspection and engineering services; award decisions and consultant selections were not made at this meeting.
