Residents urge Granite County to require recordings of airport advisory board meetings

Public commenters pressed the Granite County Commission to require recordings or fuller minutes for the airport advisory board, saying current written minutes do not reflect discussions and that some board chairs have refused to consider public comments.
A citizen commenter said ‘‘I don't think any of those things are the case’’ about dismissing concerns and detailed that some board members had said complaints were from a small, loud minority. Derek Campbell said the minutes coming from the airport board are “very lacking compared to the content” and urged recording Zoom meetings so the public record is complete.
Blaine, county staff, told commissioners recording advisory board meetings is “a little extra work” and may require budget for secretarial support. “Recording them is a little extra work. You may have to the commission may need to, you know, maybe some expense there paying for a secretarial clerk,” Blaine said.
Commissioners discussed options: whether the commission could direct recordings for all advisory boards, whether a commissioner attending meetings might be perceived as micromanaging, and whether requiring recordings would be feasible for small volunteer advisory bodies. Blaine said he would research policy and costs and report back to the commission.
The commission did not adopt a policy at the meeting; commissioners and staff asked for further research and consideration over the coming meetings.
