Granite County commission elects Kolaski chair for 2026, accepts minutes and moves surplus items

An unnamed commissioner moved to elect Commissioner Kolaski as chair; another commissioner seconded and members responded “Aye.” “There you Congratulations,” an attendee said after the vote.
The commission then voted to accept the Dec. 30, 2025, minutes. Elena Gagliano asked that an earlier Dec. 16 meeting record be noted as not yet uploaded; county staff said the county attorney had been out of the office and would review those minutes before publication.
On routine business the commission also declared two pieces of road equipment surplus and set minimum bids. Unidentified Speaker 1 described plans to list a backhoe with a $75 minimum and a roller with a $3,000 minimum; the motion to declare the items surplus was seconded and passed.
Finally, the commission held a second reading and adopted Resolution 2025-18 to transfer PILT (payment in lieu of taxes) funds to the towns identified in the resolution. The measure passed with unanimous “Aye” votes. Commissioner Lieberman thanked the commission, saying the funds would help local budgets and that the distribution followed the towns’ requested population-based split.
The meeting adjourned after a presentation on an elevator project and other department reports.
