Ramsey County Commission approves bills, pays DOT invoices and okays equipment purchases

The Ramsey County Commission on Tuesday approved routine financial business and several road-department purchases, including payment of local shares for nine state Department of Transportation construction and engineering invoices from 2022 and the purchase of a replacement V-plow for the Starkweather district.
At Jason’s presentation, commissioners reviewed nine DOT invoices described as final or near-final closeouts for multiple CER projects, with construction and engineering line items provided by Jason. He said final inspections were completed Dec. 22 and asked the commission to approve payment of the local-share invoices. The commission moved and approved the payment by roll call.
Jason also presented two quotes to replace a worn V-plow used for severe cuts. RDO submitted the low bid of $15,715 including freight; Butler came in at $17,500. Commissioners discussed compatibility with existing blades and possible trade-in value for the old unit. The commission accepted the RDO quote and approved the purchase.
Separately, Jason asked the commission to authorize ordering culverts to replenish the county yard inventory. He presented a vendor total of $49,132.80 to Johnston Colbert for a spring stockpile; the commission approved the purchase.
Jason said the highway department is also managing a planned title-transfer arrangement with the sheriff’s office involving surplus vehicles; proceeds from a planned spring surplus sale will fund two Dodge pickup transfers used as shop vehicles.
The commission deferred a fuller combined financial report to its next meeting but voted to approve the treasurer checks and other routine authorizations during the session. The meeting concluded with a series of other departmental updates and scheduled follow-ups.
