The Trenton City Council on Jan. 6 elected Councilwoman Jenna Figueroa Kettenberg as council president and Councilwoman Williams as vice president during its reorganization meeting at Trenton City Hall.
The nominations were moved and seconded by council members and approved by roll-call votes. Following the vote, Figueroa Kettenberg addressed the chamber, calling the moment an honor and outlining priorities for the year, including attention to Trenton Water Works, the sale of city properties and support for immigrant communities. "Iam honored, Iam humbled to be here...I am committed to ensuring that every voice is heard at all times," she said after being sworn in.
The council also voted to approve the Dec. 2, 2026 minutes and passed a multi-item consent agenda by roll call. President Figueroa Kettenberg and Vice President Williams offered brief remarks thanking colleagues and guests; visiting officials in attendance included Senator Shirley Turner and representatives for the Mercer County executive.
The meeting concluded after a public comment period and a motion to adjourn carried on a roll-call vote.
The newly elected leadership said they will prioritize efficient meetings and collaboration with city departments as they address issues on the council's calendar.
