Mayor Mark Frey read a proclamation on Jan. 5 declaring Jan. 9, 2026, 'William Sanford Day' and thanking Sanford for more than 15 years of service as the city's director of economic development and administrative services.
The proclamation recounted Sanford’s work representing the city with the Sylvania Area Community Improvement Corp., Northwest Ohio Regional Economic Development organizations, the South of Monroe (SOMO) development, and for helping establish a Joint Economic Development District with Sylvania Township. Trustees and township officials joined council members in offering remarks of appreciation.
Sanford accepted the recognition, reflected on projects and colleagues who helped deliver them, and said he plans to remain involved in the community. Council and township officials noted a retirement celebration planned for his final workday and expressed thanks for his service.
