At its Jan. 5 meeting the Jenkins City Council heard several updates on water and sewer infrastructure and took administrative steps to support ongoing projects.
A consultant or regional infrastructure representative reported that procurement notices have been published for the wastewater treatment improvement project and that the application will be sent to the Department of Justice this week; the speaker said the DOJ will provide a comment period before any funds are released. The presenter also described the Water Resource Information System (WRIS) used by the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority to track, map and prioritize water and sewer projects across the region.
The council discussed a plant rehabilitation effort (final plans in development) funded by multiple sources, including disaster recovery money. Council members noted arrival of a flow meter and a project manhole; work is underway and outside contractors have been on site.
"They get planned, they get voted on through the regional council," the presenter said of projects entered in WRIS, adding the system is public and provides mapping and priority information for legislators and the public.
The council approved a motion to open a separate checking account for the Raven Rock Water and Sewer project, a legislative line item that requires segregation of funds. The council also approved pay requisitions: certificate number 11 (totaling $108,270 for Unit Construction, Brad, and Nisbett Engineering) and certificate number 04 (Abby Jones $3,300; DCMC Partners $3,067.75; total roughly $6,003.64). The chair noted environmental review timelines can affect project start dates—some reviews described as potentially taking about six months—so schedules depend on funding source requirements.
Council members and staff also discussed surplus of an older bucket truck with a failed transmission; the council voted to surplus the truck and authorize sale or trade to obtain replacement equipment.
