New Sherburne History Center director outlines school programs and gallery changes

Amber Latanzio, the newly hired executive director at the Sherburne County History Center, told the county board on Jan. 6 she plans to expand school programming and refresh the museum’s gallery space.
Latanzio said she is about six weeks into the job and described a pilot program that would bring roughly 30 students each Friday for 30-minute sessions, culminating in a larger evening event for about 200 students. She said the center’s gallery (last substantially updated in May 2006) needs reconfiguration to allow more frequent rotation of artifacts; one idea is a transportation timeline featuring each town in Sherburne County.
Latanzio also said she is revising membership tiers to broaden retention and create offerings for adult groups. She credited program coordinator Emma and community partners (including the Boy Scouts) for recent events such as the candlelight walk.
Commissioners welcomed the plans and asked that Latanzio work to include schools across the county rather than only the host community of Becker. Latanzio said the first spring trial run (April–May) will inform expansion plans.
Next steps: Latanzio will run the April–May trial program, report results and propose gallery changes and membership adjustments for subsequent board consideration.
