Polk County approves $27,852 firewall purchase; staff notifies board of server quote increase

IT staff (Speaker 10) requested a motion to approve a SHI reseller quote of $27,852 to replace the primary firewall that controls county traffic at the Law Enforcement Center. "This is for the amount of $27,852," Speaker 10 said; commissioners asked whether SHI is the only source and were told the reseller typically has state pricing and staff pursue multiple quotes. The board approved the quote by voice vote.
On a separate item, staff reported an updated server and storage replacement quote. An earlier approved amount was about $231,331; a new quote reflecting increased memory costs was $253,198.24, an increase staff attributed to volatile memory pricing. Speaker 10 told the board the price had been updated and staff expected to be "locked in" on the current amount but noted figures change daily.
Commissioners did not request additional bidding on the firewall approval at the meeting; for the server/storage item staff characterized the update as informational and said no motion was required at that time.
