The Defiance City Council on Jan. 6, 2026, held a swearing-in ceremony in which Judge Essex administered the oath of office to multiple individuals taking city posts. Those who recited the oath in the meeting record include David m McMaster, Jill a Prutch, Josh Mass and Steven a Waxler senior. Each repeated language pledging support for the constitutions of the United States and the state of Ohio and the charter and ordinances of the City of Defiance.
Judge Essex led each oath and invited those sworn to place their left hand on a Bible and repeat the oath. Mayor McCann congratulated the newly sworn-in members and wished the council a “Happy New Year.” The council president then called the meeting to order and noted that all active council members were present.
The swearing-in restores the council’s membership and preceded agenda items including a public hearing on a zoning amendment, personnel ordinances, and other routine business.
