Otter Tail County awards Perham resurfacing and Bluff Creek structure replacement contracts

The Otter Tail County Board voted Jan. 6 to award two transportation contracts recommended by County Engineer Jody Taich.
Taich asked the board to award SAP 056‑608‑032, the State Highway 8 resurfacing and Americans with Disabilities Act improvements in Perham, to Anderson Brothers Construction Company of Brainerd. Taich told commissioners the low bid was 9.82% over the engineer’s estimate, a result he attributed to the small, phased project scope and tight timelines. The board approved the award and accepted the contracts and bonds.
Taich also requested award of a structure replacement for County State Aid Highway 76 (box culvert) over Bluff Creek. That structure has been closed for an extended period; five bids were received and Taich recommended awarding the work to Marvin Tredder, Inc. He said necessary permits will likely delay the start until June, but that the replacement—using box culverts rather than a traditional bridge—should proceed quickly once the contractor mobilizes (roughly three weeks to a month, barring unforeseen issues).
Commissioners asked about soils and site conditions; Taich said a geotechnical investigation informed the design. Both contract awards were approved by voice vote after motions and seconds.
