At the Jan. 7 meeting the council moved into and reconvened from closed session, after which City Attorney reported multiple outcomes. On the litigation item Edgar Quincy Sloan v. City of Bakersfield there was no reportable action and Councilmember Gonzales recused himself because of potential campaign contributions. On the Robin Boyd and Raymond Boyd matter the council gave unanimous direction to the city attorney (reported as 7–0). The city attorney also reported three reportable matters on potential litigation under item 3(b). On closed‑session item 3(c), involving two Truxton Avenue properties (1430 and 1440 Truxton Avenue), staff and the city manager's office were given direction in a 6–1 vote, with Councilmember Weir recorded as voting no. The performance evaluation item (3(d)) produced no reportable action.
Following the closed‑session report, the vice mayor moved to approve the consent calendar items 7A through 7I. The motion passed unanimously.
In council remarks, Councilmember Gonzales praised Golden Empire Transit and the newly launched Toucan Trolley, a downtown–Old Town Kern connector, and congratulated public works and staff on approving the construction bid for the 18th and 19th Street corridor project, which he said will support downtown revitalization. Councilmember (transcribed as Bessear Tash) asked City Manager Clegg to bring a proposed train depot and Sumner lease agreement with Union Pacific to the next meeting for evaluation and potential action.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:52 p.m.
