City staff told Riverside City Council on Jan. 5 that the city has received a state grant to fill a missing sidewalk segment on Spinning Road that will improve connectivity to a nearby bike path and schools.
The manager said the total project cost is about $380,000 and that the state will fund most of the work. "Our local match is just over $33,000," he said, and staff will return at the next meeting with a resolution authorizing acceptance of the grant and spending the local match, which will pay for engineering work ahead of construction anticipated in 2028.
Staff said there is no assessment to residents associated with the grant-funded sidewalk and that, at this point, no right-of-way acquisitions are expected; engineers will confirm that during design. The manager identified potential funding sources within the city budget (street fund engineering dollars or general fund) and said he will specify the chosen source before the next meeting.
Councilmembers noted the connectivity benefits for students and residents and asked staff to notify impacted homeowners if construction affects private property during future phases.
