Riverside swears in Angela Jackson as Police Chief after City Manager appointment

City Manager Josh Rausch announced the appointment of Major Angela Jackson as Riverside's Police Chief and Mayor Williams administered the oath at the City Council's Jan. 5 organizational meeting.
Rausch described Jackson's tenure and qualifications, saying she had "demonstrated effective and capable leadership skills" during months as acting chief and noting that she has "24 years of service with the city" and is the city's first graduate of the FBI National Academy. "Given those achievements and having watched her performance . . . I believe she has the professionalism, instincts, character, and commitment to serve as our next Police Chief," he said.
Jackson repeated the oath of office and was congratulated on the council dais. Council did not record a separate confirmation vote in the public meeting transcript; the manager's announcement and the mayor's swearing-in were the public acts recorded.
The appointment follows a period in which Jackson served as acting police chief. The manager said the mayor would swear her in during the meeting; Jackson then took the oath and assumed the office.
Council members and staff invited residents to a short reception in the lobby following the swearing-in.
