The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Planning Commission recommended that the assembly classify a 900-square-foot portion of borough-owned land at 5182 North Pittman Road in Wasilla as general-use to support a proposed lease to Cellco Partnership for a cellular communications tower.
A staff member attending for Asset Manager Suzanne Riley said the parcel currently houses Fire Station 72 and that the 900-square-foot area in question is vacant, accessible from the existing driveway and parking lot, and would not interfere with fire-station operations. Staff reported that public notice produced no adverse comments and that the Department of Emergency Services confirmed compatibility with existing operations.
Commissioner McCabe moved to adopt Resolution 25-29 and Commissioner Scoggins seconded; the chair opened and closed the public hearing with no speakers and, with no objections, the commission approved the resolution by voice vote. The recommendation now goes to the Borough Assembly for final action on the classification and any lease authorization.
Staff noted the classification is intended to allow public-infrastructure development and to facilitate a lease; any specific tower design, permit approvals and associated conditions would be subject to subsequent review.
