Parks commission re-elects Richard Becker as chair, names Steve Geiger vice chair

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission reelected Richard Becker as chair and selected Steve Geiger as vice chair during its Jan. 6 meeting. Nathan Taylor nominated Becker for another term as chair; the nomination was seconded and carried. Russ Martin nominated Geiger for vice chair; that nomination carried unanimously.
The leadership votes followed the commission’s procedural review and a reminder from Pat O’Mara, the department’s deputy director, about how nominations and votes are taken. The commission also approved the minutes from its Nov. 4, 2025 meeting; Taylor said he would abstain because he had not attended that prior meeting.
The newly chosen officers will perform the usual duties spelled out in the commission bylaws: presiding over meetings, calling special meetings, and reviewing agendas. Pat O’Mara said officer elections occur at the first meeting of the year and reminded members that the commission’s secretary is the director of the department (with the deputy director serving as the director’s designee).
No further formal leadership actions were taken at the meeting. The commission proceeded to department reports and commission business.
