Resident urges Alpine council to reroute heavy contractor traffic from Cemetery Road

"I presented to Miss Escobedo a proposal that says, why don't we take the big traffic, the dump trucks, cement trucks, the big 18 wheelers... and put it down 118 and have it come through the front gate of Sierra Run," said Mickey Cox during the public comment period, describing maps he provided to Councilmember Escobedo.
Councilmember Escobedo introduced the item as an informational discussion seeking a traffic engineering assessment, municipal authority review, and next steps for potential ordinance development. The city attorney said the city has control over municipal roadways within the city limits and suggested an interlocal roadway agreement with the county could provide a continuous regulation where jurisdiction changes. Several councilmembers supported pursuing an agreement and asked staff to discuss the issue with county officials and report back.
Councilmembers also raised resident concerns (for one-time construction deliveries or homeowner needs) and suggested permit options to allow residents temporary access by larger vehicles. Councilmember Stevens volunteered to raise the issue at the next commissioner courts meeting and report back.
No formal action or ordinance was adopted at the meeting; staff were directed to investigate options, including traffic engineering analysis and potential interlocal agreements with the county, and to return with recommendations.
