The Gardner School Committee held its annual reorganization on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, electing officers for the calendar year and completing routine organizational business.
Mayor Nicholson, who chairs the committee by city charter, opened nominations for vice chair. Attorney Polaven nominated Rachel Cormier, a nomination seconded from the floor. The committee closed nominations and convened a roll-call vote; multiple members announced votes in favor of Rachel Cormier and Dr. Pellegrino recorded a "No." The chair announced Rachel Cormier had been reelected vice chair for the committee's coming term.
The committee then opened nominations for finance officer. Attorney Palaven nominated Joan Lefrenier; the nomination was seconded and the committee prepared for a roll-call selection. Nominations were also taken for two alternate finance officers; Mister Lefreniere nominated Robert Schwartz and Jennifer Polaven/Plavin (name variant in the transcript) and the motion to close nominations carried.
For secretary, Attorney Belayton (transcript name variant) nominated Anne Hurst; the nomination was seconded, nominations were closed and a roll-call confirmed Anne Hurst as secretary.
Chair Nicholson congratulated the newly elected officers and declared the reorganization complete for the 2026 calendar year. The committee then moved to accept the consent agenda as presented; the motion carried by voice vote.
The committee concluded reorganization and recessed to other agenda items, including policy readings and student reports.
Next procedural step: the committee will meet next on Feb. 9, 2026, at 6 p.m. in the council chambers.
