CVB: new visitor guide out, hotel conversions and small revenue dip reported

Kel Cinco, Geary County CVB (convention and visitors bureau) director, reported that the new visitor guide has been printed and distributed to department heads and local visitor centers, and noted several tourism developments staff are tracking.
Cinco said several local hotels have rebranded or closed (one property appears to be operating as apartments rather than a hotel, according to the CVB review of the property). He attributed part of the modest 2 percent decline in transient-guest-tax (TGT) revenue to hotel closures and ongoing highway construction that limits interstate access. The CVB director said she had secured three fishing tournaments for the coming year and that one tournament organizer had asked for additional grant support to expand a single-day event into a two-day tournament.
The CVB director also noted staffing and board transitions tied to upcoming travel and conferences. Staff and commissioners discussed whether an official notice about future TGT changes should be sent to hoteliers once state-level action is finalized.
What’s next The CVB will continue distributing the visitor guide, pursue grant and event support, and coordinate with the county and hoteliers on any changes to TGT procedures once they are officially confirmed.
