Mill Valley opens new beach volleyball courts; state bond pays $177,000 toward project

Mill Valley’s newly built sand volleyball courts at Bayfront Field are complete and a ribbon-cutting is planned for late August, Deputy Director Jay Ingram told the Parks & Recreation Commission.
"So that is that's just the presentation, for the sand volleyball courts," Jay Ingram said while showing photos and construction notes, adding the city elected to install sod rather than seed to shorten the opening timeframe. He asked commissioners to save either Aug. 26 or Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. for the ceremony.
Ingram also noted the project’s funding mix: "State Park Proposition 68, the Parks and Water Bond Act of 2018, contributed $177,000 of the $300,000 project." He thanked donors, Friends of Parks and Recreation and staff who helped deliver the courts.
Commissioners and community members praised the finish in remarks during the meeting, and staff said a sign listing donors and more photos are on the city website. No formal action was required; the ribbon-cutting date will be confirmed with commissioners by e-mail.
