Select Board approves library bylaw changes, appoints recreation member and opens Boston Post Cane nominations

Speaker 3 said the revisions reflected input from the library committee and had been routed through the town clerk. After brief discussion the board moved and approved the amended bylaws.
Speaker 1 moved to appoint Karen McCafferty to the recreation committee for a one‑year term; the motion was seconded and confirmed. Board members noted a clerical checkbox on McCafferty’s application that incorrectly referenced the planning board; Speaker 3 said McCafferty indicated she was not interested in the planning board and the clerk will correct the application record if needed.
On community tradition, Speaker 1 moved to open nominations for the Boston Post Cane on Jan. 1, 2026. He explained the local policy and timeline: nominations will be accepted for 60 days, closing on March 2, 2026, and require proof of age and residency. Speaker 1 provided background on the Boston Post Cane tradition and said the town has a nomination form in board members’ inboxes and a poster to publicize the process. The board approved opening nominations and directed the clerk to publish the form.
Other business included a reminder that the next RSU withdrawal meeting will be Dec. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sumner Town Office and an announcement that an ad hoc Swap Shop committee has four members with three openings; Speaker 1 noted a GoFundMe campaign organized by Penny Horstfall to support the effort.
The meeting concluded with the board’s adjournment at 6:59 p.m.
