Joliet advisory committee previews Feb. 26 community workshop and outlines four subareas for detailed study

Committee members and staff on Jan. 7 reviewed recent neighborhood outreach and sketched plans for the second community workshop in Joliet’s comprehensive-plan process, set for 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Joliet Public Library’s Ottawa Street branch in the Daniel Burnham room.

Staff reported two completed topic-area workshops — housing and neighborhoods on Dec. 8, which drew about 40 people, and transportation and mobility on Dec. 9, with roughly 10–15 attendees — and said preregistrations for upcoming sessions range from the low teens to about 20. "We have 20 people so far signed up for the infrastructure and utilities workshop," staff said, and added the project team maintains an outreach list of more than 800 contacts who receive notices and tailored invitations.

Why it matters: the committee is moving from collecting priorities to testing draft goals, objectives and preliminary design concepts with the public. The Feb. 26 workshop is intended to introduce the consultant’s mapped subareas, gather specific feedback to refine recommendations, and help the consultant translate community input into draft plan language and design concepts.
