South Suburban Parks’ new executive director introduces liaison model and park projects

Andy Bass, who said he has been South Suburban Parks and Recreation District’s executive director for four months, introduced himself to the Littleton City Council on Jan. 6 and described a reorganization that assigns deputy executive directors as liaisons to each of six communities.
Bass said the district is working with Littleton staff to update a memorandum of understanding for operations that dates to the 1970s and is coordinating trail planning and maintenance priorities. He told the council the district added two budgeted positions focused on trail maintenance and forestry operations and is undertaking park infrastructure improvements; construction on the Jackass Hill project is planned to start this summer.
Deputy Executive Director Lisa Norell said she joined South Suburban in 2018 and will oversee golf, hospitality, HR and IT; she noted participation in Littleton’s Leadership Academy and emphasized community liaison duties.
Councilmembers thanked Bass and Norell and signaled interest in a joint meeting between the district’s board and city council to align strategic priorities.
What’s next: Council liaisons to South Suburban (Council members Peters and Grove mentioned later) will continue coordination; staff noted a joint meeting is being planned to discuss strategic priorities and the MOU update.
