Summary

The Area Plan Commission approved a rezoning to allow Playtopia to operate a childcare center at 1414–1428 South 10th Street. Staff recommended approval with conditions: an engineering‑approved drop‑off/pick‑up and parking plan and approval of any required variances by the BZA.
Petitioner Amy Travioli said she and her husband will lease the property from the Apostolic Faith Tabernacle and clarified the childcare is not being run as a ministry. Explaining a revised pickup/drop‑off plan, Travioli said the center intends to use the back alley so children "will be deposited behind a fenced in area," reducing exposure to the public street. She also said an awning will be built to shelter caregivers and children during inclement weather.
Staff noted the front of 10th Street is public parking and that the change in the drop‑off route was discussed with city engineering. The commission approved the rezoning; engineering must review and approve the detailed pickup/drop‑off and parking plans before use as a commercial childcare center.
