The Parks & Recreation Commission presented its annual report March 24, outlining near‑term and multi‑year priorities including the Boyle Park master plan, a playground replacement strategy, Miller Grove improvements and a Bayfront master plan update.
Commissioners said the Boyle Park master plan consultant has been selected and council approval of consulting services is complete. The commission also recommended a playground replacement program that would include at least one accessible feature — such as an adaptive swing — in every playground. Commissioners described the sand volleyball courts as a 10‑year effort that has reentered active planning and noted continued work on the golf clubhouse (acquisition of new tee markers, irrigation updates, drainage mitigation and launch of food and beverage services).
Commissioners emphasized community engagement and coordination with staff through an April 12 public retreat. Councilmembers asked for clearer timelines and a way to map commission priorities onto the city’s council work plan; commissioners said a new commission will set a timeline following its retreat.
Council thanked outgoing commissioners for service and accepted the report.
