Milford Board Unanimously Confirms Mayor's Appointments and Swears in New Board Members

The Milford Board of Aldermen unanimously approved multiple slates of mayoral appointments to city boards and commissions and later the newly confirmed members were sworn in by the city clerk.
Mayor Smith read a lengthy list of appointments covering the Council on Aging, Redevelopment & Housing Partnership, Veterans Preservation Commission, Redevelopment bodies, various boards (Board of Assessment Review, Board of Finance, Library Board, Park Beach and Recreation Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals), and many others. After motions to approve the lists were made and seconded, aldermen asked clarifying questions about ethics and recusal for particular appointees (for example, a question whether Blake Smith on the Police Commission would have to recuse on matters involving the developer MetroStar). The city attorney and mayor said codes of ethics and case-by-case recusal rules apply.
Alderman Casey and others thanked volunteers and encouraged residents to consider serving on commissions. Following the votes, the newly confirmed appointees were called to the front of the auditorium to be sworn in by the city clerk and were instructed to sign the attendance sheets after the oath.
The board also briefly recessed during the swearing-in and resumed business afterward.
What happens next: appointees will assume their duties on the commissions with terms as read aloud by the mayor; the city plans a spring open-house to introduce commission chairs and their roles to the public.
