Staff noted the environmental awards are nonmonetary recognitions and that the city has an existing budget line of about $1,000 that could be used to commission the awards rather than buying trophies.
Commissioners discussed how the project could run as a competition or a commissioned selection and agreed the item could begin as ad hoc brainstorming and later be moved to the work plan if desired. Commissioners volunteered to serve on the ad hoc and the motion to form it passed with all commissioners voting yes.
What happens next: The ad hoc will coordinate with environmental staff to define scope, schedule and budget and return recommendations to the Arts Commission for any formal work-plan action or contract authority needed to commission local artists.
