Commissioners adopt local proclamations; public comment urges community cooperation and more mental‑health focus

The board also adopted a proclamation recognizing the 250th anniversary of the United States and Columbus County’s participation in the statewide 'America 250' initiative.
During the public‑comment period, Johnny Edge urged a community approach to support children and families, saying the county needs a 'village' of institutions — hospital, sheriff’s office, Southeastern Community College and DSS — to collaborate on mental‑health and youth supports. Edge told commissioners, "My New Year resolution is I'm gonna be nicer ... it takes a village," and he called mental health the "number 1 problem" in Columbus County.
Both proclamations were approved by voice vote.
